Solapur: Setting up a unique world record of maximum number of musicians performing on stage together, over 1,500 artists participated in a musical concert here that enthralled the audience.
1,536 artists -- 1,236 tabla and 300 pakhawaj players -- performed 'taal ninad' for 45 minutes during an event organised by spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar's foundation Art of Living's local unit on Tuesday evening.
"The event was organised to create awareness about the soothing delight of classical music," Manoj Shah from Art of Living's Solapur unit said after the event.
"Artists between the age group of 12-80 years were among the performers. Performers from Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra were part of the historical event," he said.
According to Shah, the previous record was set in Ahmedabad where 321 tabla maestros had performed at the Sardar Patel stadium in 2011.
Ravi Shankar was among the thousands of people present for the concert.
