London: Former Spice Girl Mel C believes becoming a mother cured her depression and helped her get rid of her unhealthy relationship with food.

The 38-year-old, who feared falling pregnant with three-year-old daughter Scarlet would reignite her illness, was surprised to get rid of it completely, reported a daily.

"If you've had depression in the past, you're more prone to it again. But if anything, being pregnant and having a baby gave me a fresh start. Having Scarlet has given me the
confidence to say I'm totally cured of any depression and I can't tell you how great that makes me feel," Mel C said.

The singer said her dark spell was sparked by an eating disorder she developed whilst in the Spice Girls.

"The stress of suddenly being thrust into the limelight led me into an unhealthy relationship with food and exercise. I became obsessed about what I ate and I cut lots of food groups, like carbs and protein, out of my diet. I survived on fruit and vegetables and little else," she said.
