Movie: Aashiqui 2

Director: Mohit Suri

Cast: Aditya Roy Kapoor, Sraddha Kapoor, Shaad Randhawa

Jagran Rating: Average

Story Line: With expectations running high, Vishesh Production’s much-awaited film Aashiqui 2 hit cinema screens on Friday.  But let’s get clear that Aashiqui 2 is not a sequel of Aashiqui nor it is the remake of the 1990’s hit. It has a completely different storyline. But yes, Aashiqui 2 brings back memories of ‘A Star Is Born’, which was made thrice in Hollywood in 1937, 1954 and 1976. The film also reminds us about Amitabh-Jaya starrer Abhimaan.

Unlike the 1990’s Aashiqui, Mohit Suri’s version of ‘Aashiqui’ is about two singers. Story revolves around Rahul Jaykar (Aditya Roy Kapur) who is an alcoholic and falling singing sensation. Aarohi (Shraddha Kapoor) is a wannabe singer and wants to make an identity in the music industry. Rahul finds her singing at a Goan bar and decides to help Arohe realize her dream. He grooms her for playback singing and arranges for her auditions.

Stereotypically, they both fall in love with each other. But their life takes a turn when Aarohi becomes a big star while Rahul's career starts to decline. To save her relationship, Aarohi decides to give up her career as she believes - Love Makes Life Live!!!

Thumbs Up: One good thing about the movie is Aditya Roy Kapur's performance. Aditya Roy Kapur's depiction of the intense character is outstanding. One can feel the agony in his character. Shraddha Kapoor looks very pretty in the movie but the actress surely needs to work on her acting skills. Of the supporting cast, Shaad Randhawa as Rahul`s friend has performed his art well. Director Mohit Suri has tried to make it a good, neat and clean film. Ashiqui 2 music is definitely the highlight of Aashiqui 2 as it really strikes your chords. The credit goes to Mithoon, Jeet Ganguly and Ankit Tiwari for composing such soulful tunes.

Thumbs Down: When we talk about performances, Shraddha Kapoor disappoints us. She really needs to work hard on her acting skills. The story is not error-free. The film's poor writing seems to have ruined the hard work of Aditya. The scenes seem to be dragged a bit too much. There is nothing new that Aashiqui 2 can offer to its audience.

Aashiqui 2 is a musical romantic film. Truly belongs to whom who are intensely in love. But do not make a mistake to compare it with previous Aashiqui, you will be disappointed.  You can for Aashiqui 2 if you are a diehard fan of Bhatt movies, otherwise, just give this film a miss.
