Movie:  Humshakals

Director: Sajid Khan

Cast: Saif Ali Khan, Riteish Deshmukh, Bipasha Basu, Ram Kapoor, Tamannaah Bhatia, Esha Gupta, Chunky Pandey, Satish Shah

Storyline:  Ashok (Saif Ali Khan) and Kumar (Riteish Deshmukh) are the two protagonists in the movie.  While Kumar is the owner of a comedy club, Ashok is a struggling stand-up comedian and the successor to the incredible Singhania empire.

The story takes a twist when Ashok’s iniquitous uncle, Kunwar Amar Nath Singh (Ram Kapoor), who has his devilish eyes on the Singhania empire, plots to send Ashok to a mental asylum, absurdly called ‘Lord Cray G. Mental Asylum’.

His uncle’s plan is as straight as an arrow. He wants to somehow establish Ashok mentally unstable and take over his property.

When both Ashok and Kumar end up in the mental asylum, to their astonishment they find another Ashok and Kumar there with exactly the same names and they are actually mentally unsound, speaking like unbalanced kids.

The whole movie then revolves around the sane pair of Ashok and Kumar being mistaken for the mentally unstable lunatics and vice-versa, which leads to nothing but a dreary eye-sore.

In the entire movie, Ashok’s wicked uncle keeps plotting against his nephew and how his nephew with the help of his best friends and three glitzy heroines defies him.

Movie Review: When Sajid Khan directed the movie Himmatwala, everyone thought his sense of humour had reached its nadir but as stubborn as he has ever been when it comes to directing bizarre ‘so-called’ comedy flicks, he has once again set the bar very very ‘low’, even lower than what his staunchest of critics could have ever fathomed.

A story devoid of even an iota of logic, despicable PJs, irksome overacting by almost every actor, contemptible homophobic and racist jibes, low-level jokes directed at physically disabled people and a climax that would test your patience and brains to the extreme are the uniqueness of this movie.

The movie fails to score points on any aspect whether it is Himesh Reshammiya’s jarring music, inane sound effects or ridiculous dance steps.

All the actors in the movie are guilty of mind-numbing overacting and no one has come out unscathed from this disaster of a movie. Saif, Riteish, Ram, Bipasha etc all have disappointed big time.

Chunky Pandey’s character as a creepy gangster in the movie is perhaps one of the most ridiculous and agonizing performances of recent times.

If you want to test your patience then there cannot be a bigger examination than this two and half hour of mindless comedy, (read ‘tragedy’).
