Bhopal: Keeping the farmers welfare as its top priority, Madhya Pradesh Government here on Sunday decided to discuss issues related to agriculture separately during the weekly Cabinet meetings.

State Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made an announcement to the effect today while addressing conference of Commissioners-Collectors in Bhopal.

The state had achieved a record 18 per cent agriculture growth rate during the last fiscal and is keen to sustain the high rate this year as well.

The government has also announced setting up of an Organic Fertiliser Council to promote use of environment- friendly organic manure and to increase the area of organic farming in the state.

Chouhan also directed the officials to maximize irrigation potential of the state and asked them to motivate farmers to go for at least three crops in a year where water is available and adopt diversified cropping pattern.

Referring to the issue of sub-standard fertiliser and seeds, he asked the officials to take stern action against those indulging in such activities adding the government would frame a stringent law to check the menace of inferior quality of seeds and fertilisers.
