Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Congress on Wednesday said it was "shameful" for the state that it has not sent its tableau for the Republic Day function in New Delhi for the second consecutive year.

The BJP Government should explain why the state's tableau is not part of this year's Republic Day parade, Madhya Pradesh Congress President Kantilal Bhuria said. "This is the second consecutive year that Madhya Pradesh failed to display its tableau on Rajpath. It is highly shameful," he said in a statement here.

Republic Day is an occasion when states take pride in showing their cultural and development activities before the President and other dignitaries. The function is watched by a large number of people at Rajpath and also on TV, he said.

The BJP Government always boasts of turning Madhya Pradesh into a golden state. But it has failed to showcase the state to the outside world. This has hurt the sentiments of the people, Bhuria maintained.

The practice of displaying MP's tableau had been going on for years but it was discounted in 2012. The Government should come out with the real reason behind this development, he demanded.
