Bhopal: In its bid to simplify the procurement mechanism and making it easier for the farmers to sell their produce, the Madhya Pradesh government has decided to expand the services of purchasing wheat through Short Message Service (SMS) across the state.

Presently, wheat is bought via SMS in Harda district only.

“The SMS system is ideal for the district and it will be made applicable across the state,” Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said while inspecting the purchase of wheat at minimum support price in Harda agricultural mandi.

“Earlier farmers managed to sell-off their produce after spending number of days in the mandi but now with the help of SMS system they can sell-off their yield in a half day.”

Under this system, the farmers have to get them registered. Information of the due date of purchase would be sent to the farmers via SMS.

Chauhan congratulated the farmers for leaving Punjab and Haryana behind in wheat production and said they have increased the state’s reputation.
