Bhopal: In a bid to provide some relief to farmers from the increased power tariffs, the state government has decided to give additional subsidy of Rs 275 crore annually on permanent agriculture power connections. The annual subsidy will now be raised to RS 2200 crore from RS 1925 crore previously.

The decision to this effect was taken in a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Speaking on the issue, minister for health and state government spokesman Narottam Mishra said that farmers consuming 30 units will be charged 90 paise per unit while power loom consumers will be availing the earlier subsidy of 125 paise per unit.

He further said that the farmers will not be charged extra tariff in the name of fuel adjustment cost after every three months.
