Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Government on Thursday gave in-principle approval to the ambitious Mukhya Mantri Teerth-Darshan Scheme, under which a person of any religion can visit a religious place of his/her choice with the government bearing the expenses.

The decision was taken by the state cabinet at the meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here, official sources said.

Chouhan had announced the scheme at a gathering of senior citizens at his residence a few days ago. Religious Trust and Endowment Department would act as the nodal agency for the scheme.

The cabinet also decided to form a sub-committee for framing the rules and regulations for the scheme.

The scheme aims to cover a minimum of one lakh persons a year.

Recently, the state government also decided to subsidise visits to religious places outside the country.
