Gwalior: Acting on the complaint filed against illegal quarrying of stones in the restricted areas of sanctuary, the district administration on Thursday cracked down on illegal miners in the mining area.

The District Magistrate, along with Superintendent of Police and officers of forest departments recovered truck loads of stones from the spot.

Despite restrictions imposed in Ghatigaon area of Gwalior district, rampant illegal mining of stones has been reported in the past.

In order to stop the activity, the administration raided the mining site. The workers fled from the site as soon they saw policemen raiding the area.

During the inspection, the team seized 15 trucks and trolleys loaded with stones and destroyed them.

District Magistrate Akash Tripathi informed that strict action will be taken to stop the illegal mining of stones in the sanctuary area.
