Bhopal: In a novel move to empower the women and improve the deteriorating sex ratio in the state, the Madhya Pradesh government is geared up to launch a campaign for saving the girl child during the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja.

For ‘Save Girl Child’ campaign starting October 5, the government has directed 12 concerning departments including Health and Family welfare department and Women and Child development department to regulate the awareness program.

The Women and Child development department will be the nodal agency that will regulate the entire campaign.

Marking the triumph of  mother goddess ‘Durga’ in the festive season ‘Vijaydashmi’ the program aims at generating awareness among the people about the importance of women, negative impacts of worsening sex- ratio and need for empowerment of women in the state.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has urged the State Ministers to actively participate in the program.
