Gwalior: Once known for its ravines and dreaded dacoits, Chambal region may soon have a Development Authority. In an effort to bring about development in the long ignored Chambal region, the Madhya Pradesh government is all set to start a Development Authority for the belt.

Ahead of the next State Assembly polls in 2013, the ruling party BJP seems to have again come in the working mode. In an attempt to keep its promises made to the people of region during the 2008 assembly election campaign, the BJP government has come up with the move.

The state administration has started its preparations to establish the new authority by next year.

The authority will mainly handle issues like problems of gunman, availability of water and accelerating agricultural productivity in the district.

Chambal district is very influential with the respect of political holdings.

Through this move, the BJP aims to strengthen its political base in the Chambal region. There are over a dozen assembly seats in the three districts of Chambal region.
