Gwalior: Even after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced ban on single door buses in the state after the tragic Sendhwa incident in which 10 passengers were burnt alive in a bus, the transport departments has decided to continue with operations of the single-door buses in the state.

The Chief Minister had set November 15 deadline for the department to install additional doors or emergency gates in all state-owned buses.

Invoking the Central Government’s guidelines for the decision, Dilip Kumar, Deputy Transport Commissioner said that the order has been issued under the schemes and provisions of Central Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

As per the guidelines in the Act, the tourist buses with national permit will have only one door for entry and exit purposes.

“Even if these buses have single doors, making the buses safe for passengers we will ensure the arrangement of emergency gates, fire extinguishers and other necessary items in the buses,” Kumar said.
