Chhindwara: A 12- member team of the vigilance department of the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board (MPSEBP)on Thursday detected power theft worth Rs five crore following raids on offices of the Western Coalfields Limited (WCL) at Kanhan, Pench, Chandameta and Moadi and mines of the Prism Cement Company at Umred.

Superintending Engineer of MPSEB, Kailash Gupta said that during the raids, the vigilance team found that a case of unauthorised use of electricity totalling 3000 Kilowatts at Ambada and power meant for domestic use being put for commercial exploitation.

The Superintending Engineer said that at Umred, the team found power theft at Moadi and in Chandameta adding a notice for realisation of Rs five crore had been served to the WCl and added that lineman Radheyshyam Ghoghri and the in-charge of the distribution centre, S S Baghel were suspended.
