Kolkata: Rural artisans of Bengal will mesmerise Kolkatans by showcasing their handiwork in a rural fair which begins on Saturday, coinciding with the festivities surrounding 'Poila Boisakh', Bengali New Year's day.
'Mrittika - the Village Soiree' would celebrate Bengali tradition and culture and aims to promote art, craft and rural artisans, the organisers said.
The fair would showcase Bengal's handicrafts, the famous kantha stitch, bamboo art works, clay crafts, beaded jewelery, leather works, cane and rope artistries, organizer Tamal Ghosh said. It would be held at Axis Mall in Rajarhat and would continue till April 29.
About 20 artisans from Bolpur near Shantiniketan would give live demonstration of their craft, besides exhibiting and selling them, he said adding the fair site would be designed to represent a Birbhum village so that visitors feel the rustic essence and charm.
