After his election, which took place in Srinagar, the PDP patron wrote a letter to Governor NN Vohra staking claim to form government in the state.

While in Jammu, BJP leaders met Governor Vohra and handed over a letter of support in favour of PDP-led government in the state.

In Srinagar, PDP spokesman said, "Mufti was unanimously elected as the leader of the PDP legislature party. The meeting of legislature party was held here today. Senior leader AB Rehman Veeri presided over the meeting."

He said the development followed the meeting Sayeed had with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi earlier in the day.

"In his letter to the Governor, Mufti informed him that with the support of the BJP, the PDP-led coalition would enjoy a clear majority and was in a position to provide a stable government in the state in the wake of a split verdict," the spokesman said.

He said the swearing-in ceremony will be held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium of the Jammu University at 11:00 AM on Sunday, March 1.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi would attend the swearing-in function after which a joint press conference will be held by the two leaders," the spokesman said.

In Jammu, a delegation of BJP MLAs comprising Kavinder Gupta, state general secretary of BJP and MLA Gandhi Nagar and other party legislators called on Governor.

The BJP delegation handed over a letter to the Governor which conveys BJP's support in favour of the PDP for formation of government in the state.

"The letter also requested the Governor to invite Mufti Mohammed Sayeed MLA elect and patron of PDP, to form the government with the BJP," a party spokesman said.
