Chandigarh: Independent MLA from Mukerian Rajneesh Bubby, who was denied Congress nomination in the recent assembly elections, on Tuesday announced his support for the party in the presence of Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh and Union Minister Ambika Soni.

Welcoming Bubby's support to the Congress, Amarinder said, it was unfortunate that Bubby could not get the party nomination at the time of elections. Since the selection process is quite complicated sometimes deserving candidates are left out, he said.

The state party chief said he was happy that Bubby was now supporting the Congress as his family had a long association with the party.

Bubby's father Kewal Krishan was not only a party leader but also a freedom fighter and Bubby had maintained the family tradition, he said.

Speaking on the occasion Ambika Soni said, Bubby's family and the Congress party were synonymous and his father was a party stalwart whose contribution to Congress was unparalleled.
Sonia said she had come with the blessings and good wishes of party president Sonia Gandhi who was equally keen that Bubby should be back in the party.

Stating he was feeling immensely happy on Tuesday as it was just a homecoming for him although he had not got the Congress ticket, Bubby said, the entire rank and file of the Congress party had supported him in Mukerian.

Had it not been for the Congress workers' support he could not have won independently, Rajneesh added.
