Lucknow: Launching tirade against the Congress over police action against Baba Ramdev and his followers, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav termed the party as a bigger ‘thug’.

“A Congress leader said that Baba is a thug. I want to say that Congress is the biggest thug and it should introspect its deeds," he said in an apparent reference to Congress leader Digvijay Singh.

Taking a swipe at the UPA government, SP chief said, “The Centre is more concerned about the Baba Ramdev than the intrusion across borders.”

Talking to the reporters here, the SP supremo slammed the Central government for the police forceful action with the yoga guru. Yadav said, “The attack on Ramdev and his supporters could be likened with aggressive action against foreign forces.”

On being questioned about supporting Ramdev’s agitation like BJP and RSS, Yadav quipped back asking, “Do you consider the police brutality against Baba’s followers is permissible?”

The action taken against Baba Ramdev would increase the base of his followers and those who do not like him would also join the agitation, he claimed.

“The stand of the government on Ramdev stir has reminded of the state of emergency. All the opposition parties stand united over the issue,” Mulayam said praising the efforts of Baba and his followers for raising their voice against corruption.

Asked whether his party will withdraw support from the Congress-led UPA government on this issue, Yadav said, “SP is not amongst the leading alliance of the government. The party is supporting the UPA government only on the issue of keeping communal forces at bay.”

Asked whether his party will demand the Prime Minister to step down, he said, “Samajwadi Party will create such circumstances that the common man will oust them for their undemocratic act.”
