Mulayam, who is also contesting from Azamgarh, said, "I will not leave Mainpuri seat after winning the polls. I am also contesting from Azamgarh due to pressure of party workers. As BJP leader Narendra Modi is contesting from Varanasi, the partymen wanted me to counter him by contesting from Azamgarh.”

"Due to my contesting polls from there, the party’s position has got better in Purvanchal," he added.

Mulayam, who was accompanied by his brother Ramgopal Yadav and party leaders Khuman Singh Verma and Mohd Omar, said the Samajwadi Party will win ‘maximum number of seats’ in the state.

He also said that no party will be able to form the government without Samajwadi Party’s support

"We will win maximum number of seats in UP.... In Delhi no one will be able to form the government without SP. In the Third Front too, SP's position will be strong,” he said.
