According to the reports of an English daily, The SP chief made the statement while addressing ministers and leaders of Samajwadi Party at Lohia Park in Lucknow, on the occasion of the 46th death anniversary of socialist thinker Ram Manohar Lohia.
SP chief said, "Nobody should be given an opportunity to question the character of the ministers of SP government. Be patient in your behaviour, avail the luxuries, also make some money. But take care that the blame should not come on the youth who sacrificed their five years to bring SP in power.”
Earlier Mulayam Singh’s younger brother and PWD minister Shivpal Singh Yadav had also made a similar statement in Etah on August 9.
While presiding over a meeting of district officials, he said "If you work hard, you can steal a little. But don't do dacoity,"
Although Shivpal later claimed that he said this in a lighter vein. Later he also threatened journalists for reporting the matter.
