Majri (SAS Nagar): Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Monday said setting up New Chandigarh City, a world class cricket stadium, Medi-City and Education Hub in the Mullanpur region would put it at par with Chandigarh.

The deputy chief minister said the SAD-BJP government was going to develop the Mullanpur area at par with Chandigarh, while addressing a public rally after laying the foundation stone of Rs 80 crore project of four-laning of Morinda-Kurali- Siswan upto Punjab boundary.

Badal said the SAD-BJP government was committed to providing world class infrastructure in urban as well as rural areas of the state.

The construction of four-lane Siswan T-road to PGI was going on full swing and would be completed within a year, he said.

He said 150-acre Medi-City would have a super specialty cancer hospital and the education hub would be developed in 1,500 acre of land so that world class education facilities could be created for the coming generations.

He said the government had chalked out an ambitious plan of Rs 8,600 crore to provide potable drinking water and sewerage connectivity to each household in next three years.

He said to check the serious problem of water pollution, the state government has started a Rs 1,000 crore project to ensure setting up of sufficient number of sewerage treatment plants to ensure purity of rivers and canals of the state.

He said with the completion of Chandigarh-Bathinda expressway, the traffic flow between Chandigarh and Bathinda refinery would be smooth and it would also facilitate the flow of traffic to neighbouring state of Haryana.
