According to initial reports, the roof of the building, located at Colaba’s Ganesh Murti Nagar area, caved in.

Incessant rain in the city from the past two days is believed to have caused the shanty to collapse.

According to sources, fire tenders have been pressed into service to assist in the rescue work at the accident site.

This is the second such collapse in five months. Seven people were killed earlier in March this year after a seven-storey building collapsed in Vakola.

Further details into the untoward incident are awaited.
