Mumbai: The commercial capital of India is all set to be the first metro city in the country to be fully equipped with all-round Wi-Fi technology. Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has etched out a plan to establish a high-tech Wi-Fi network in the city within two years.

In the first phase of six months, the service will be introduced in Belapur, the business stronghold of Mumbai.

NMMC Executive Engineer GV Rao said, “We are prepared to launch Wi-Fi facility in some areas of the city within the next six months. The tender for providing Wi-Fi service in Belapur area will be released within a week.”

“The motive of the plan is to provide Wi-Fi facility to the people of Mumbai at minimal charges. Although we are planning to launch Wi-Fi service for all sectors, providing the facility to domestic customers is our top priority,” he said.

According to Rao, after analysing the initial success of the service, the facility will be provided to business houses and industries.

Private companies on contract will provide the Wi-Fi services in the city. The NMMC will be the sole body to decide on the fee charged from the customers using the facility.
