Mumbai: Former Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Deputy Leader of the BJP in Lok Sabha, Gopinath Munde wants to play a bigger role in the state politics and project himself as the Chief Ministerial candidate.

In a bid to exercise strong grip over the party in the state as late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan once had, Munde wants the party high command to take him into confidence while reaching any conclusion regarding the issues related to his home state.

Like Mahajan, Gopinath Munde has been active in Maharashtra politics from the time of Jansangh and has made back-breaking efforts to spread the BJP ideology across the state.

Both the leaders were assigned important work. Pramod Mahajan was active in national politics and carved his niche in the BJP, while Munde was given responsibility to look after the party affairs in Maharashtra.

Mahajan was party in-charge of Maharashtra and every decision regarding party affairs was taken with his consent.

Now Munde also wants to acquire the same status enjoyed by Mahajan. Munde has played a pivotal role in building party’s base in backward community in the state, where he is billed to be a mass leader.
