Dumka (Jharkhand): Identifying himself as a Maoist, a murder accused was on Thursday arrested in Dumka on charges of threatening a teacher by phone to cough up Rs two lakh or would be killed, the police said.

"On the basis of an FIR lodged with town police station on August 13 by Prem Rajeswar Murmu, who is a teacher with the Dhamna Primary School, the police arrested the accused Badka Marandi," Superintendent of Police Hemant Toppo told news persons here.

Toppo denied Marandi had any links with Maoists.

"He had confessed to having murdered an official of the district agriculture department on October 10 last year as the latter rejected his proposal to marry his daughter," Toppo said.

His mobile and SIM were seized, he said.
