The meeting comes amid media speculation that there could be an expansion of the Cabinet soon. Sources said the meeting between the two leaders at the Prime Minister's Office lasted for 45 minutes.

Joshi's name has figured as a possible candidate for Defence Ministry which Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is currently having as additional charge.

The two leaders met shortly after BJP president Rajnath Singh held parleys with top RSS leaders on Wednesday morning, after which he met Modi.

Despite being a senior BJP leader, Joshi, who draws support from RSS, has not found a place in Modi's cabinet.

Sources said Joshi has offered to work under Modi. Party insiders said that he may also be considered for an advisory role.
