Dehradun: Concerned over the climatic changes and its impact on the Himalayan ranges, the Union Minister of Science and Technology, Vilas Rao Deshmukh has announced to establish national level Glaciology Centre at Mussoorie.

While addressing a seminar on ‘Indian Monsoon and Himalayan Geodynamics’ at Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Deshmukh said that there has been frequent fluctuations in the Indian monsoon season which is less serious in comparison with other countries. National Glaciology Centre will be opened in Mussoorie to study the minute changes in the climate.

Meanwhile, the Director of Wadia Institute said that considering the climatic records of the last 100 years, the Monsoon cycle in Himalayas has been affected. As a result, few places are experiencing sporadic rainfall while others are facing heavy rainfall leading to floods.  

Technology Minister also inaugurated the Isotope laboratory in the Institute.
