A best-selling book refers to the number of copies sold rather number of copies printed. Here is the list of five best-selling books of all time.

1. A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens – The best selling book of all time was first published in 1859. Since then around 200 million copies of this book are sold. This novel carries a tale of tow cities – London, Paris--. Story of this book refers to the era before French Revolution. The story is a reflection of   French aristocracy just before revolution. The tale of the France goes parallel with London of the same era.

2. The Lord of the Rings, written by JRR Tolkien – This book was published in 1954. The copies of this book marked 150 million number. 'The Lord of the Rings' was published in 3 series. After some editing in the book, few more volumes were published.   

3. The Little Prince, written by Antoine de Saint-Exupry - The Little Prince was not written in English. It has been translated from French to English in 1943. Around 140 million copies of the novel are sold. It is the 3rd most-translated book in the world. It was voted the best book of the 20th century in France. The Little Prince has been translated into more than 250 languages.

4. And Then There Were None,
written by Agatha Christie – The writer of this book, Agatha Christie is the first female, whose book included in the list of most selling books. It was first published in 1939 and since then around 100 million copies are sold. The book was first published with the name of  Ten Little Niggers after the British blackface song. Then in the first American edition, the title was changed to the last five words in the original American version of the song that was 'And then there were none'.

5. Dream of the Red Chamber, written by Cao Xueqin – This is the oldest book in the list of  most selling books. It was first published in 1791. Since then 100 million copies are sold. This book is also known by the name of 'The Story of the Stone'. This master piece of Chinese fiction was written during Qing Dynasty.
