New Delhi: In the backdrop of upcoming Assembly elections in five states, Sonia Gandhi-led National Advisory Council (NAC) recommended constituting a law to monitor implementation of Dalit schemes.

The NAC has suggested the Centre and state level planning commissions that funds for schemes for Scheduled Caste should be kept separate.

It has also recommended for separate boarding schools for Dalit students. The suggestions were given by NAC Working Group on Dalit issues co-chaired by Harsh Mander and Farah Naqvi.

According to them, apart from villages, schemes like separate boarding schools for Dalit students should be implemented in cities and towns.

The working committee also suggested that SC students should get assistance even after passing High School and government schemes should be so connected with the ministry that families belonging to SC community can directly avail financial assistance.

The NAC committee said that the Centre should formulate a law for monitoring SC related schemes in order to keep a tab on the expenditure and social auditing.
