Aurangabad: Amid the ongoing controversy over the location of Central University in Bihar, Nagaland Governor Nikhil Kumar on Friday demanded that the Magadh University be given the Central University status instead of Patna University.

He said, “Gaya-based Magadh University is the second renowned university of the Bihar.”

He, however, added that his demand has nothing to do with the upcoming new central university in Bihar.

Recently, the Patna University has once again initiated a fresh move demanding central university status. Being the seventh oldest university in the country, Patna University fulfils all the basic criteria required for a central university.

The University proposal has created a rift between Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal over its location. Sibal has favoured Gaya as an ideal location for the institution because it is close to an international airport and is well connected with other cities, but the state is seeking to open it at Motihari. The HRD Ministry has been allocated land by the Defence Ministry in Gaya for the setting up the university.
