Bhopal: Bharatiya Janata Party candidates Najma Heptullah, Faggan Singh Kulaste, Kaptan Singh Solanki and Thavar Singh Gehlot and Congress nominee Satyavrat Chaturvedi have been elected unopposed to the Upper House from Madhya Pradesh said Principal Secretary of state assembly and Returning Officer Rajkumar Pandey of the Rajya Sabha.

Four candidates of BJP and Satyavrat Chaturvedi had filed nominations for five RS seats from Madhya Pradesh. Chaturvedi is sitting RS MP from Uttarakhand and his term is going to expire in April.

As the BJP has 152 MLAs in the 230-member assembly House while Congress has 66, it was apparent that BJP will be able to bag four RS seats from the state.

Kaptan Singh Solanki has once again retained his RS seat.

Madhya Pradesh has a total of 11 representatives in the Rajya Sabha. Biennial elections to the Upper House were held as tenure of five BJP MPs are going to be over.

Now, the BJP has nine MPs and Congress has two sitting MPs including Dr Vijaylakshmi Sadho who have been elected from the state.
