Kurta with half sleeves and standing collar is the customary attire of BJP's poster boy.  'Modi kurta', as it is fashionably called, has now expanded its reach to the overseas amid growing demand from foreigners and NRIs. Despite having grown up in rather humble surroundings, Modi always has a liking of good clothes.

The Modi Kurtas, which have become a trend now, have an incredulous story behind its evolution. In an interview, Modi had admitted that it was his own design which he mistakenly created. He had cut the sleeves short to make its washing easier, besides making it adjustable in his small bag.

Bipin Chauhan, who co-owns Rs 150-crore clothing chain, Jade Blue, along with brother Jitendra has been dressing up Modi for two decades now. According to Chauhan brothers, three things- his eyes, voice and clothes-are of prime importance for Modi. He takes maximum care of all the three things above all, they said.

Talking about Modi’s clothing pattern, the Chauhan brothers said, “He wears according to the occasion and for every event he readies himself in different attire.”

He dresses himself according to the changing weather conditions. For winters, he prefers donning suit with woolen muffler. He generally dresses himself in simple churidar payjamas with elegant kurtas.

During outings, Modi prefers donning sporty look with casual T-shirts, simple hats and sports shoes in his wardrobe.

With the changing times, Modi's dressing sense has evolved over the years. Besides poly-khadi, his wardrobe now includes kurtas in khadi, khadi silk and linen. Light shades including white, off-white, saffron, light pink, pistachio and earthy shades are his favourite colours.

Modi is not fond of wearing branded clothes. Instead, he believes in setting his own brand.
