Ahmedabad: While the controversy of former Home Minister Haren Pandya murder case and the appointment of the Lokayukta in the state by the Governor has given reasons for the Congress to smile, it has bogged down the ruling BJP party. With tough times surrounding the party, Chief Minister Narendra Modi has pulled up his socks to take the command of the situation in his own hands.

With the upcoming Assembly elections in the state next year, the state government is making sure not to let the CM’s image get tarnished.

In order to boost the morale of his party leaders, Modi has been engaging in ‘dinner diplomacy’ to discuss and acquire second opinions on the issues.

In its decade long hegemony in Gujarat, the Modi government has been challenged for the first time by the Governor of Gujarat. Utilising her special privilege conferred by the Constitution, she appointed Justice R A Mehta as the Lokayukta in the state.

Moreover, in the Haren Pandya murder case, the High Court freed all the 12 accused by the CBI. Thrashing the CBI for spoiling the case, the court had said that it was not investigated properly.
Putting the ball in their court, Haren Pandya’s wife Jagrati called the BJP her family and has publically appealed for justice.

Acting carefully, the Ministers and the leaders have been directed to maintain low profile on any issue while only allowing the spokesperson of the state government to deal with the media.
