Speaking on the “Electoral Politics and Communalism” during Memorial Lecture organized to mark the anniversary of Dainik Jagran’s former Editor late Narendra Mohan, chief speaker Mangala Rai came down heavily on loopholes in current political system in the country.

Highlighting the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi, he said, “At present, the religion of truth, non-violence and morality are on the wane.” Both the Gayatri Mantra and the Quran convey the same meaning, added the noted scientist.

“If the style of functioning, hollow claims and corrupt practices of politicians are not checked, the anger of people will create revolution in the country,” said Mangala Rai.

Dr Rai was quick to add that the current electoral system is the root cause of rising casteism, communalism, regionalism and lingualism in the country. If the current system fails to address it, people will be compelled to think about the Presidential form of government.”

Agreeing to the views of Rai, Dainik Jagran Editor Sanjay Gupta said that the political leaders indulge into communalism to win elections. It will badly affect unity in the country, he added.
