Ahmedabad: Rebel Congress leader Narhari Amin soon after joining the BJP in Gujarat has hit out at the Congress leadership.

During a felicitation ceremony organised at the Gujarat BJP office, Amin addressing a gathering said that 2012 is past now and the BJP will return to power at Centre in 2014. Former Deputy Chief Minister further said that the Congress leaders, harbouring selfish motives of becoming the Chief Minister, have neglected grassroot leaders.

Earlier, Modi hailed Narhari Amin’s decision to join the BJP and termed it a significant development in Gujarat’s political history against Congress’ dynastic politics. He further hit out at the Congress for neglecting Dalits and cited example of Bhimrao Ambedkar who was given Bharat Ratna after Rajiv Gandhi. He also criticised the Congress for neglecting grassroot leaders like Amin.

Notably, Amin was denied ticket for the Gujarat elections by the Congress on November 29 after which he started showing signs of discontent and resigned on Monday from the party. Though top Congress leaders including Rajiv Shukla went to Gujarat to appease Amin but failed in their effort.

It is to be noted that former President of the Gujarat Cricket Association Narhari Amin comes from the Patel community and has a strong hold in Saurashtra which sends 54 MLAs to the assembly. The BJP is seeing him as an answer to Keshubhai Patel as both the leaders belong to the politically important Patel community.
