Bhopal: After completing 79-hour journey, Narmada river waters on Sunday entered the state capital amidst the chants of ‘Har Har Narmade’. The eagerly awaiting masses welcomed the entry of water into the city on the World Environment Day.

The ambitious decision to bring the Narmada water in Bhopal was taken by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2003. Since then people have been waiting for the fulfillment of their dreams.

People were waiting for the holy water with bated breath since Saturday morning, but inclination at Mandideep delayed the flow of water to reach the city after taking approximately six hours.

Mayor Krishna Gaur, who was present to greet the holy river at Misrod along with Congress and BJP activists, offered obeisance and visited the Narmada Temple.

Meanwhile, sources said Narmada water is still raw and citizens would have to wait for at least a week to get potable water.

Earlier, the water was released on Wednesday afternoon from Hirani-Shahganj but it could not get a go-ahead from Khatpur and Dohara Ghat due to leakages in pipe lines and pumps.

On Friday evening, the water was rushed through break pressure tank providing finally an uninterrupted flow to the capital.
