Rafiganj: Close on the heels of Arakkonam train tragedy which took place on Tuesday, a major mishap was averted in Bihar when Mumbai Howrah mail had an narrow escape near Dev railway station in the Gaya-Mughalsarai division.

A major tragedy awaited the 22322 down Mumbai-Howrah Mail as some miscreants had placed obstacle on the track.

After hitting the obstacle, the train engine failed though luckily it did not pose any threat to any passenger.

Due to the mishap, the train movement on the line was disrupted for more than an hour.

Consequently, the 22302 down Delhi-Howrah Rajdhani and 22314 down Delhi-Sealdah Rajdhani had to halt at AN road and Dehri stations respectively.

According to information, six goons forcibly overpowered gateman Rajendra Prasad and in order to execute the mishap placed obstacles on the track near Dev Road station.

At around 2:40 AM, the Mumbai mail Express hit the obstacle that burst the MR pipe in the engine and brought the train to an immediate halt.

An engine was then brought from Dehri and after fixing the fault it was given a green signal to proceed to its destination.

Assistant Commandant of RPF, MS Prasad termed the incident as a work of some miscreants.

Notably, a Rajdhani Express met with an accident on September 9, 2002 near the same station which had claimed lives of 133 passengers.
