Sharif offered prayers at the mosque built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan in the national capital amid heavy security.

The Pakistani Prime Minister came to India on Monday to attend Modi's swearing-in-ceremony.

Meanwhile, Modi will be meeting the SAARC leaders along with his Pakistani counterpart in one of his first engagements after taking charge.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet Sharif at 11.45 am and the meeting between the two leaders is expected to last about 25 minutes.

The bilateral relationship between the two Asian neighbours has been bedeviled by what India views as Pakistan's hesitation in taking action against the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Before his departure to India, Sharif was reported by the Pakistani media as saying that he was carrying a message of peace and would discuss all matters with the Indian leadership.

As a goodwill gesture, Sharif on Sunday ordered the release of 151 Indian prisoners captured by Pakistan.
