Khaira, (Jamui): A Naxal group kidnapped seven labourers involved in the construction of the bridge and water tank at Pakri-Bela Ghat of Keol River near Pakri village of Khaira police station in Jamui district on Thursday night.

The police have conducted a massive search operation for the safe recovery of abducted people. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Munger range, Anil Kishore Yadav immediately reached the spot to take stock of the situation.

It is worth mentioning that Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh hails from the same village. It has been reported that the levy may be the reason behind the incident.

“Around 50 Naxals kidnapped the 16 persons. After tying their hands, Naxals took them away to the other shore of the river. After interrogation they freed nine of them and took away the remaining seven,” said the police official.

Kidnapped persons include guard Vijay Singh, driver Pradip Yadav, Pholtus Yadav, Chandan Yadav, technician Dharmendra Yadav, Yogendra Yadav and Anil Singh.

The contract for construction of bridge was awarded to the Pul Nirman Nigam which appointed the Singsan Archon Private Limited, Deoghar as the petty contractor. Around 75 percent project work has been completed.
