R S Pura (J-K): Opposition PDP on Sunday accused the ruling National Conference of indulging in "political gimmicks" to remain in power.

"The NC has been brazenly indulging in political gimmicks to stay in power instead of addressing the aspirations of the people. It has failed on all fronts," People's Democratic
Party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed said here.

Sayeed was addressing a public meeting held to welcome former R S Pura Municipal Committee Chairman Bhushan Lal Dogra and hundreds of his supporters into the PDP fold.

Criticising the state government's decision to postpone civic polls, he alleged that over the last three years the NC had "eroded and undermined" all democratic institutions.

"Civic elections were scheduled to be held in February this year, but the government has been delaying the elections without any reason. The indifferent attitude reflects the dictatorial mindset of the NC party," Sayeed alleged.

Claiming that the government had adopted the "pick and choose" policy while allotting funds for development in the state, the former Chief Minister said this had led to resentment among the youth.

"The state government adopts the pick and choose policy while releasing funds for development in the state, with some regions completely being ignored. This has led to resentment among the youth," he said.
