New Delhi: Good news for NCC certificate holders as several top companies are hiring them by offering fat salary. The government is mulling to include NCC as an optional subject in the schools and colleges.

The NCC is likely to be included as an optional subject in the current academic session in the 30 autonomous colleges as pilot project. Union Human Resources Development Minister MM Pallam Raju on Tuesday laid stress that higher education institutions and professional colleges should give priority to the NCC certificate holder students in the admission.

Addressing the national workshop for the inclusion of NCC as an optional subject in the schools and colleges, Raju said that the new initiative is of great importance.

The NCC and sports can prove to be instrumental in stopping the youths from deviation, added Raju. Higher Education Secretary Ashok Thakur informed that the NCC will be included as an optional subject in the autonomous colleges in 2013-14, while it will be started in the universities in 2014-15.

Points of optional subject earned by the students will be added to the result. At present, there are about 400 autonomous colleges and 700 universities in the country.
