New Delhi: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and urged him not to set up National Counter Terrorism Center (NCTC) saying that anti-terror mechanism will compromise the security of nation.

Narendra Modi said that most of the Chief Ministers including few from Congress have strongly opposed to the proposal.

"The proposed step is illegal and unconstitutional. It will compromise the ongoing fight against terrorism,” Modi said.

Recently, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa had also written a letter to the Prime Minister in which she had objected the proposal for the setting up of a single point of control under the Home Ministry for all anti-terrorist measures. “The present system of a multi-agency centre at Delhi interacting with the subsidiary multi-agency centre at the level of states was considered to be working well, she said.
