NCW, the apex organisation of the country with the mandate of protecting and promoting the interests of women, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the ASCI in this regard on TUesday, as per which the latter will carry out the study in Odisha, Tripura, Punjab, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu.
NCW Joint Secretary Sunita H Khurana and Registrar and Secretary of ASCI Prof B Lakshmi signed the MoU in the presence of the NCW Chairperson Lalitha Kumaramangalam and Member-Secretary Dr Nandita Chatterjee, ASCI said Wednesday.
The study will help in understanding population dynamics and trends, educational scenario of women and girls, their economic parameters, employment and work force participation, health and nutritional status, housing and habitat issues, household dynamics and their quality of life at the familylevel. It will also cover the issue of abuse and violence against women and girls, it said.
The ASCI will evaluate the progress of development for women and girls in these states and recommend ways and means for strengthening their situation with the help of the situational analysis.
Prof Lakshmi, Dean of Research & Management Studies, Director, Centre for Human Development and Chairperson, Health Studies Area, at ASCI, held a discussion with the NCW Chairperson of NCW and her team over the project.
