Kathmandu, Jan 11 (Agencies): Cold wave claimed over three dozen lives during the past one week in southern Nepal's Terai district, officials have said.

Eight people died in Sarlahi district, seven in Saptari and six in Sunsari became the victim of intense cold.

Three people died in Siraha and as many were reported dead in Bara district. Two each died in Rukum and Bardiya while one person was reported dead from Banke, Kanchanpur and Nawalparasi districts.

On Monday, three people including a child died in Sarlahi district, inceasing the death toll to eight, according to officials.

Icy winds and thick fog has disrupted normal life with schools in various districts being closed and few domestic flights being cancelled on Monday in southern Nepal.

On Monday the temperature in Kathmandu Valley dipped to the lowest of this season at 0.5 degree C, according to the Meteorology Department.
