Kolhapur: Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday said here that a new law to regulate the cooperative sector in the state would be brought in before the next year.

"It is necessary to have a new law for cooperative sector against the backdrop of 97th amendment to the Indian Constitution. A commission appointed by state government will prepare the draft, and state government will try to table it before January 2013," Chavan said.

The Chief Minister inaugurated a seminar organised by the state Cooperative Department here, to mark the international cooperatives year and the birth centenary year of Yashwantrao Chavan, the first Chief Minister of Maharashtra.
