Deoghar: A mega handloom cluster is set to be established in Santhal Pargana of Jharkhand which will give a fillip to art and culture in the state along with providing employment to the people.

The announcement which was made by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee will transform the lives of around two lakh weavers in the region. The mega cluster will be set up with an investment of around Rs 100 crore.

Batting for the cluster since two years, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey from SanthalPargana in a telephonic conversation said, “Our demand has been accepted by the Finance Minister. The project will provide employment to at least one lakh families.”

Mukherjee also announced two more mega handloom clusters at Prakasam and Guntur districts in Andhra Pradesh.

The Government of India has also announced to set up a weavers service centre in the state. This centre will help develop more marketable products by encouraging interaction with experts. The centre will organise exhibitions, seminars and workshops to encourage the use of new techniques in the handloom industry.

The mega cluster will also help the state to meet the demands of handloom products at domestic and international levels.
