Bangalore, Jan 18 (Agencies): Karnataka will introduce its new sand mining policy from April 1 this year under which the construction material would be auctioned ending the practice of issue of permits.

The cabinet sub-committee headed by Home Minister R Ashok, constituted to suggest measures to draw the new policy, on Tuesday submitted its recommendations to the cabinet meeting.

The sub-committee has suggested ten recommendations, implementation of which would lead to increase in royalty collection from Rs 11.50 crore to about Rs 80 crore annually, Minister for Higher Education VS Acharya said.

The committee favoured ban on sale of filter sand, he said.
