Washington, Jan 05 (Agencies): Frank Ruggiero, the US diplomat who replaced Richard Holbrooke last month as the Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan, would travel to the two countries later this week.

"Acting Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Frank Ruggiero will travel later this week to those countries, a trip that Ambassador Richard Holbrooke had planned to make after the New Year," said State Department spokesman PJ Crowley.

During his maiden trip to Afghanistan and Pakistan in this new capacity, Ruggiero will meet Government officials, representatives of civil society, and the media.

He will also focus on preparations for the upcoming US-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral meeting scheduled to take place in Washington next month.
