Amidst ongoing nationwide debate over probity in the Indian politics, some new faces have joined election fray in Punjab raising a hope for the people of the state. Former Indian Hockey Captain Pargat Singh, Dr Navjot Kaur Sidhu, a successful medical professional and wife of lone BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu from Amritsar, law graduate and former national swimmer Rajwinder Singh Lucky, radiologist Dr Rajkumar and many others are some of the new faces for the state politics. They are promising bringing about decency in politics and the government.

Pargat Singh (46)

The renowned Olympian and former Indian Hockey Captain is contesting from Jalandhar Cant assembly seat on Shiromani Akali Dal ticket. Before joining politics, he resigned from the post of the Director of Sports for Punjab. Talking about his objectives for joining politics, Pargat said that he wanted to bring about positive change in the society and improving the condition of youths especially those who are caught in the mire of drug addiction. He further added that he believed in the philosophy of ‘live and let others live’. He promised that he would mainly focus on the issues concerning to the youths in the state after getting elected to the State Assembly.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu (48)

Dr. Novjot, the wife of cricketer turned politician and Amritsar MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, has been associated with the medical profession for over 23 years. She is contesting as a BJP candidate from Amritsar East assembly segment, a part of the Amritsar Lok Sabha constituency which is represented by her husband. Talking about the reasons for joining politics, she says that he has never been ambitious about joining politics but at the instruction of BJP high command, she is contesting state election. Stressing on bringing probity and morality in politics, Navjot says that these elements are necessary for solving the problems concerning to the people. She is an ardent admirer of noted Gandhian and anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare.

Rajwinder Singh Lucky (33)

Rajwinder is contesting from Balachaur assembly seat of Hoshiarpur in Punjab as a Congress candidate. He is working as a law professional since 2005. He has been associated with youth Congress since his college days and in 2011, he was appointed as general secretary of Punjab youth Congress. Rajwinder also stands tall being a former national level swimmer. Talking about his new innings as a Congress candidate for the state assembly, Rajwinder says that his enthusiasm and modern views as a youth will help him to come up to the expectations of the party leadership and the people of the state. He suggests that participation of educated youths in the politics is very necessary for the overall development of the country.

Dr. Rajkumar (43)

Dr Rajkumar a Congress candidate from the Chabbewal assembly constituency of Hoshiarpur district is a radiologist by profession. He says that he is running an NGO named ‘Koshish’ for the last few years to serve the people. Koshish occasionally holds free medical camps for providing basic medical services to the needy. He believes that more and more youths joining politics will foster the growth of the nation.
