Ahmedabad: The newly elected Gujarat MLAs will take oath on Tuesday and the first session of the state assembly will be convened on Wednesday.

The pro-tem Speaker of state assembly, Dr Nimaben Acharya will administer oath of office and secrecy to the elected legislators, whereas a new Speaker will be elected on Wednesday.

A total of 182 legislators got elected in the assembly elections held on December 13 and 17. However, two seats have fallen vacant as Congress MLA from Morva Hadaf, Savita Khant passed away and another party MLA from Limbadi, Soma Patel resigned to retain his Lok Sabha seat.

All the 59 newly-elected party MLAs will hold meeting on Tuesday to elect the Congress Legislative Party (CPL) leader in the presence of two central party observers including Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

Senior state leader like Vitthal Radadia, who had resigned from the Lok Sabha seat when he won assembly seat from Dhoraji, openly staked his claim for the post of CLP leader. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Shankarshingh Vaghela has also emerged as the strong contender for the post.
